Halcyon Glades scores 100th green certification

Developer Halcyon has been recognised for its commitment to sustainable development after its Halcyon Glades community at Caboolture became the 100th project nationally to receive EnviroDevelopment certification from the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA).The 176-home over 50’s community achieved full six-leaf certification which accredits the project in the areas of ecosystems, waste, energy, materials, water and community.Halcyon Glades is the second community from the developer to be accredited after its Sunshine Coast project, Halcyon Landing, became the first over 50’s community in Australia to receive six-leaf certification in 2013.Chair of the National EnviroDevelopment Board of Management, Matthew Gross, said Halcyon had demonstrated ongoing commitment to delivering sustainability features for the benefit of its home owners and the wider community.“Importantly, Halcyon has created a liveable community that delivers a positive contribution to the environment which we are pleased to be able to recognise through the EnviroDevelopment tool,” he said.“Halcyon has incorporated various unique design features, ranging from a rammed earth wall in its Recreation Club right down to a community garden and compost.“It is a truly ‘green’ development which acknowledges the importance of achieving sustainability targets that ultimately lead to a reduction in living costs for Halcyon Glades’ home owners.“In terms of community activation, Halcyon has made an effort to build a sense of community from day one. They have held community events and bussed home owners to offsite activities while the onsite Recreation Club is being built.”Halcyon Glades’ Recreation Club is under construction and will feature a unique rammed earth wall for thermal mass, a green wall, smart solar orientation to maximise solar penetration and shade and electronically operated louvers for passive cooling. The community also has a garden for home owners’ use featuring an orchard, native bees and a communal compost facility, as well as a bio-retention basin filled with native species to efficiently treat stormwater. The homes themselves achieve a BERS rating of eight stars for energy efficient design, exceeding the EnviroDevelopment requirement of seven stars. Most dwellings also achieve a silver rating in Livable Housing Design Guidelines which promotes ageing in place.Halcyon joint managing director Bevan Geissmann said sustainability had always been a hallmark of Halcyon’s communities.“Halcyon home owners are at the stage of life when they are considering the environmental legacy they will leave future generations,” he said.“So it is true to say they have a genuine care about the environment and treading lighter on the earth.“There are also undeniable financial advantages to efficient development principles which pay dividends over time.”At Halcyon, water charges, council rates and body corporate costs are rolled into a fixed weekly fee, indexed to CPI, and buyers are also not required to pay stamp duty on their purchase.Facilities at Halcyon Glades will include a swimming pool, spa, gymnasium, cinema, pickle ball court, bowling green, tennis court, recreation centre with bar, kitchen, dining facilities, library, craft and games rooms, as well as caravan and boat storage.Homes in the fourth and current release are priced from $365,000.Halcyon has landed a suite of acknowledgements for affordability and seniors living, including Queensland and National UDIA awards for its Halcyon Waters, Halcyon Landing and Halcyon Parks communities. The Halcyon Glades sales centre is located at 34 Ardrossan Rd, Caboolture and is open from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday. For all Halcyon Glades enquiries please call 1800 814 567 or visit lifebeginsathalcyon.com.au/halcyonglades.
