Henzell family to embark on visionary $200 million Sunshine Coast project

The owners of one of Queensland’s renowned master planned communities are set to embark on a visionary $200 million residential precinct at Pelican Waters on the Sunshine Coast.

The Henzell family, four generationsof which have helped define the urban shape of Caloundra since the 1930s, willtomorrow lodge a development application with Sunshine Coast Council to deliver226 luxury residences to The Island, an exclusive enclave located in the heartof Pelican Waters.

The development, to be known as TheCove, will be undertaken in four stages and involve a variety of residentialoptions from apartments to townhouses.

The Cove will build on themasterplan for Pelican Waters which over three decades has established itselfas a suburb in its own right on the Sunshine Coast.

It will be one of the largestprivate developments on the Sunshine Coast and provide hundreds of jobs overthe next decade.

The first stage, including 36 luxuryresidences and 16 terrace homes, is expected to be launched in coming monthssubject to council approval.

A display is being constructed andwill be open mid-year to showcase the diverse mix of luxury residential optionsthat will make up the precinct.

The suburb’s lifestyle appeal hasbeen bolstered by the $20 million Pelican Waters Town Centre and Marina currentlytaking shape adjacent to The Island precinct.

Part of the masterplan beforecouncil includes a high-end retail, café and restaurant precinct to include afresh food grocer.

As a pioneer of canal estates on theSunshine Coast, the Henzell family, headed by father-and-son team Roy andMcLean Henzell, is well known for a visionary approach to lifestyledevelopments.

McLean Henzell said the plans forThe Island are a direct response to growing demand for higher-density living inone of south-east Queensland’s major growth hotspots.

“Our vision is to provide a morediverse offering at Pelican Waters that will cater to this sector of themarket,” said McLean Henzell.

“We’ve responded to that in a waythat we believe builds on our legacy of capturing the essence of Sunshine Coastliving and lays the foundations for Pelican Waters as a place to live, work andplay.

“As a family, we are proud of whatwe have achieved so far, and we are especially excited by the next chapter ofthe Pelican Waters journey.

“We are determined to create adestination for owner occupiers that has all the trappings of resort-styledliving.”

PelicanWaters was established by the Henzell and Ford families in 1989 on land thatthe families have owned since 1946.

Thefamilies have developed the Pelican Waters Golf Course, collaborating with Australianprofessional golfer Greg Norman as designer of the 18-hole golf course.

Otherprojects in the Henzell family’s portfolio include the Henzell Plaza buildingin Caloundra’s CBD, established in 1972, and the $15 million Carlyle Terracesresidential development in the Pelican Waters precinct.

Muchof the land developed in Caloundra today has been owned or transacted by theHenzell family, making their commitment to the region one which isunparalleled.

The latest large-scale project, the PelicanWaters Town Centre and Marina which will define a new lifestyle hub within the masterplanned community, has been under construction since 2018 and is due forcompletion in 2022.
