$4.25m penthouse sale breaks Caloundra record

A local couple has paid $4.25 million for a two-level super penthouse in the prestigious Anchorage on Maloja waterfront development smashing Caloundra’s long-standing apartment price record.Selling agent Billie LeKich, of Billie’s Prestige Selection, said the buyers owned an older apartment elsewhere on the Maloja Avenue waterfront and had admired the building since its development some years ago.“They watched it being built and they dreamed of being in a position to secure a penthouse in a location they had already fallen in love with,” she said.“They were fully versed in the local market and the location thanks to their history in the street.“So with retirement looming and a luxurious lifestyle waiting, they grabbed the opportunity to upsize into a two-level penthouse.”The upsizing buyers have moved into the spectacular two-level, four-bedroom, three-bathroom residence after agreeing to the asking price and finalising the deal just before Christmas. The deal surpasses by $750,000 the previous record, set in 2008 with a $3.5 million deal for a penthouse in the Aspect building, also sold by Ms LeKich. It is the second deal in as many months at the luxurious four-level oceanfront complex in Maloja Avenue, which is considered Caloundra’s millionaires’ row.Developer David Townsend, of Shanlodge Pty Ltd, said there was nothing else on the Sunshine Coast like Anchorage on Maloja.“It’s a complex of penthouses with an absolute waterfront location from where you can launch a vessel straight out onto Pumicestone Passage,” he said.“You have uninterrupted water views across a marine park and the northern tip of Bribie Island which is national park.”Last month, a former international rugby union player-turned-coach and his partner paid $2.65 million for a single-level four-bedroom penthouse in the complex. The deals leave just five of the development’s 12 residences for sale, including the other two-level penthouse which is priced at $4.65 million.Ms LeKich said the quick succession of sales and bullish inquiry for the remaining penthouses demonstrated the strengthening of the area’s prestige market.“Buyers are increasingly prepared to commit to high-end real estate that combines a fabulous location with outstanding quality,” she said.“At Anchorage on Maloja it’s a case of love at first sight for prospective buyers who follow through with a sale if they have the money.”Ranging in size from 382sqm to 650sqm, all of the penthouses in Anchorage on Maloja have state-of-the-art kitchens with Gaggenau appliances, glass shutters to ensure terraces blend seamlessly with living areas, as well as marble, granite, tile and Australian hardwood flooring throughout. The other two-level penthouse has five-bedrooms, four bathrooms, study, two garages, and full length balconies to capture the stunning water views.Single-level penthouses have four bedrooms, three bathrooms, smart-wired media room, outdoor kitchen, two-car garage with a temperature controlled wine cellar, and are priced from $2.65 million.Shared resident facilities at Anchorage on Maloja include a private jetty with deep water anchorage, lap pool and barbeque area.Shanlodge Pty Ltd has secured approval to construct a 12-metre floating pontoon which will be completed this month.
