State of the art golf academy to open at Hope Island Resort under multi-million revitalisation

A brand-new state-of-the-art golf academy is set to open early this year at Links Hope Island headed by international golf coach David Thomas as the resort undergoes a multi-million-dollar revitalisation.

Owners of the resort, GH Australia, are embarking on the transformation to create a contemporary community set to feature the new golf course and golf academy, a luxury new land estate and a new lifestyle precinct including a day spa.

The new golf academy is on track to open in January and is set to feature a range of impressive strategic technology designed to enhance the resort community and atmosphere.

The academy will be headed international PGA advanced golf coach David Thomas who is one of Australia’s leading golf professionals with plans to introduce golf monitors such as Trackman and FlightScope on the driving range coupled with his own new self-designed covers never before seen in Australia.

With cutting-edge technology including 3D and 6D Biomechanics, the academy will also feature the new protective device casings that will house the launch monitors with an iPad attached securely on top to create a more interactive experience for golfers.

Mr Thomas plans on manufacturing them locally with the launch of the website and production to start in four weeks.

The implementation of the golf academy into the Hope Island resort comes off the back of Mr Thomas’ success at his own two golf academies in Germany following an Australasian golf tour.

“The new golf academy set to open at the Links Hope Island resort as a one stop shop for coaching, it offers everything for the whole community and aims to make golf fun again,” said Mr Thomas.

“It offers significant game improvement for all golfers and will be home to every piece of technology to help visitors to achieve their goals.”

The golf academy is expected to increase state and national tourism to the Hope Island resort as it undergoes a transformation into a new look community.

‘The friendly atmosphere and quality of the golf club will help the academy will bring the local community together. For me as a PGA member, the academy brings people together and is the top of the cake in the resort revitalisation.”

As part of its redevelopment activity, a new 9th hole of the golf course was designed with previous input by the late Mike Wolveridge, along with Australian pro golfer 5-time Major Champion Peter Thomson, designed the championship Links course some 30 years ago.

The new 9th hole will be a legacy of Mr Wolveridge, who passed away last year. The construction commenced at the beginning of 2021 is due to complete by end of February with the course opened for play in his honour.

Ellen Guan, Director of GH Properties, which purchased Links Hope Island in 2013, said the transformation underway at Hope Island was part of GH’s ongoing commitment to its iconic assets across Australia.

“We spent a number of years examining the current operations and planning the implementation of a range of new initiatives that will help preserve Hope Island Resort as one of Australia’s leading master planned communities,” said Ms Guan.

“We are very excited about the milestones ahead this year and the opening of the brand-new gold academy and gold course set to bring our vision for Links Hope Island to fruition.”
