“Wrecking Ball” arrives for historic site demolition at Burleigh Heads

The colourful history of one of the Gold Coast’s most recognised buildings– built by Mimi Macpherson – sister of Australian supermodel Elle Macpherson –is about to come to a crashing end.

Demolition teams will today (Monday 13th July) bring out theheavy machinery to demolish the nine-level building built just 17 years ago by MsMacpherson.

The work will end a colourful chapter in the city’s rich history of high-riseconstruction and pave the way for the development on the $77 million Naturaproject, by luxury Brisbane-based development company Spyre Group.

Andrew Malouf, director of Spyre Group, said thedevelopment of Natura will usher in a new era for the iconic Burleigh Headsbeachfront site.

“Natura has been uniquely designed to cater to amarket of local owner-occupiers who seek larger sized luxury residences on theGold Coast,” said Mr Malouf.

“Our exciting vision for Natura will meet highdemand for luxury residential offerings in what is undoubtedly one ofAustralia’s most highly sought-after beach front suburbs.”

Spyre Group has commissioned leading Gold Coast-based construction firmCONDEV Construction to undertake the demolition and construction work.

The luxury, 17-level Natura project, which comprises 33 half-floor, three-bedroomapartments, will arise in place of Mimi Macpherson’s iconic building, situatedalong a prized beachfront site at The Esplanade.

Launched in March this year Natura has witnessed one of the mostsuccessful sales displays for a residential project on the Gold Coast, with 80 percent of apartments sold.

Mr Malouf said Spyre Grouphad been looking to purchase along The Esplanade for many years before securingthe spot where Mimi Macpherson’s building currently stands.

“In selecting this site we knew that its location, combined with what wewere planning to create, would strike a chord with the local market and we’vebeen very pleased to see this has been the case,” he said.

CONDEV Construction’s demolition of the building began late June with theconstruction of Natura scheduled to commence in the coming months.

In CONDEV’s 18-year history the company has delivered a range of high-endbeachfront projects, including La Vie and Temple alongThe Esplanade at Palm Beach.

Steve Marais, Managing Director of CONDEV Construction, said it has been a privilege to be involved in Natura – a project he describesas being of such magnificent quality in the heart of the Gold Coast.

“To be given the opportunity to work on Natura, fromthe project’s conception and feasibility, through to its construction, is very excitingand we look forward to seeing the project come to completion,” said Mr Marais.

Natura marks the ongoing expansion of Spyre Group’spresence on the Gold Coast, who are currently developing the $79 million ElysianBroadbeach project, and the boutique$25 million Maya at KirraBeach which are both nearing completion.

Natura will rise 17 levels on a 1,011sqm site located at 112The Esplanade, in the heart of Burleigh Heads.

The project is located close to the suburb’svibrant restaurant and lifestyle precinct and the Burleigh Heads National Park.
